The Witchery By The Castle

The Witchery by the Castle

Romantic, historic and utterly unique, The Witchery by the Castle has been wowing discerning diners in the capital since the 1980’s and has developed a world-wide reputation for its exceptional dining experience, showcasing the very best of Scotland’s produce in the most magical of settings.

A Scottish dining landmark, much loved by loyal locals, its A-list celebrity fans and visitors to the city alike, The Witchery was established by acclaimed restaurateur, James Thomson OBE and really is the most spectacularly atmospheric dining destination in the city.

The Witchery has become one of the city’s most famous destination restaurants with a global reputation and remains a destination for many celebrities visiting the city, including; Michael Douglas, HRH Princess Anne, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Kate Moss, and many more, with Lord Lloyd Webber describing it as “the prettiest restaurant ever!”

The décor is an undeniable part of the appeal, reflecting the building’s 16th-century origins. Dine in the rich baroque surroundings of the original oak-panelled Witchery or among the elegant charms of the Secret Garden. Both are enchanting and magical, with carved panelling, lush drapes, exposed beams, heraldic insignia and gilded ceilings.
Candlelit tables offer an intimate ambience, while the cuisine lives up to the surroundings, with the emphasis on high-quality Scottish seafood, beef, lamb and game, elegantly prepared and presented.

Signature dishes include Oban native oysters; Scallops from the Isle of Mull served in their shell with Iberico ham and garlic butter; Steak tartare with raw quail’s egg;
35-day dry-aged Scotch rib-eye steak, grilled bone marrow, roscoff onion and béarnaise sauce; Lobster and crab omelette, sauce Americaine; Roast loin of Cairngorm venison, black quinoa, iron bark pumpkin, pickled pear; Kir Royale sorbet; Valrhona ‘Equatorial chocolate and pistachio tea cake; Yorkshire rhubarb and custard tart with mascarpone ice cream.

You’ll also discover one of Scotland’s finest wine cellars featuring over 500 wines by the bottle and 16 by the glass. The restaurant was winner of the AA’s coveted best wine list in the UK awards 2013 and named among the world’s greatest wine lists in the inaugural World of Fine Wine Awards in 2014.

The Witchery by the Castle also features nine theatrical suites, perfect for those looking to stay in the most indulgent of settings. Lavishly decorated these suites scream romance with a capital R! Whether you choose the Library, the Old Rectory or the Guardroom, the result is the same – wall to wall decadence, massed antiques, gothic décor and roll-top baths big enough for two! An unforgettably magical experience.
